Oxib'B'atz' – Three Threads

A Maya women's handicraft association

Our Mission November 5, 2010

Through producing and selling handwoven goods we aim to:

  • provide a space where women from marginalized communities can express themselves and develop new skills as leaders
  • help women and others in our communities heal the psychic wounds of war, violence, racism, machismo and other forms of prejudice and exploitation
  • preserve our cultural traditions, not only for ourselves and our children but to share with other communities
  • create a sustainable alternative to low-wage, dangerous and exploitative jobs so that we can contribute to the betterment of our families and communities
  • provide a model for women and minority-owned small businesses in the South End of New Bedford and similar communities
